Una corretta pulizia, oltre che essere effettuata giornalmente con prodotti detergenti di uso comune, deve essere effettuata periodicamente con prodotti specifici in grado di rimuovere gli accumuli di cellule cheratinizzate e con esse i residui di sostanze contenute nell'atmosfera o nei prodotti da trucco che si sono depositate sulla pelle.
