More and more often we hear about the prostate, also related to male vigour, but do we really know what it is and how to maintain its well-being?
We’ll discover the disorders, warning signs and some tips in this article.

Prostate and male sexuality

The prostate is a male gland, located below the bladder, which surrounds the urethra completely. It plays an important role in the production of seminal fluid, and for this reason it is associated with male sexual activity.

Under certain conditions, however, prostate disorders can occur that can affect a man’s quality of life. If you think these annoyances are rare, you’re wrong. Let’s have a look at the numbers.

Prostate disorders: not just a matter of age

More than 6 million Italians have prostate problems[1], practically 1 out of 2 Italians.
In fact, according to the Italian Society of Urology (SIU), this condition is second only to blood pressure disorders in men over 50.

“I’m 30. When I’m 50 I’ll think about my prostate”

This is a typical phrase of those who don’t think it’s necessary to keep the prostate under control. Be aware, however, that this gland’s well-being is influenced not only by age.
Although age certainly causes changes in the levels of testosterone[2], the male hormone par excellence. There are many other factors that can influence prostate function, one of which is lifestyle.

  • A very sedentary job, where you must sit for long periods of time, for example, can increase the probability of developing prostate disorders.
  • But there’s more: subjecting the bladder to stress by retaining urine or practising sports such as horse riding, cycling and motorcycling where one sits can increase discomfort levels.

How to recognise an SOS

If you have urinary tract disorders, it might be a prostate problem. Due to its position, prostate disorders can influence urinary function.
