There are around 7 million in the world who suffer from intestinal problems; with an annual incidence of 10-15 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants [1].
These numbers undoubtedly have an impact on worldwide health.
Not just gut transit problems
When discussing gut disorders, the problem can actually regard 3 different parts of the intestine:
- Intestinal barrier: an alteration in functionality in combination with a reduction in selectivity is observed.
- Microbiota: a greater proliferation of pathogenic bacteria rather than beneficial ones is observed, a condition known as gut dysbiosis.
- Transit: a slowing of the gut transit is observed with greater difficulty in evacuating.
The laxative market
Despite the various problems linked to intestinal health mentioned above, undoubtedly one of the most commonly reported ailments is the typical “lazy bowel”.
This is demonstrated by the Pharmacy Market data of the Italian Food Union, which shows that the laxative market is constantly growing.
In fact, an increase was noticed both in terms of units sold, which reached 11.7 million with an increase of +3.5 %, and also in terms of turnover, which reached 153.4 million with an increase of +7.6 % compared to the previous year.
This despite the various regulatory provisions regarding plants with laxative action such as Alder Buckthorn, Cassia, … which have led to much confusion.

Don’t strain, there’s Laxagummy
And it is precisely for all these reasons that Naturando decided to invest, once again, in researching a new product to support intestinal health.
We did this by drawing on tradition, choosing plums (prunes) as one of the plants that is able to regulate the intestinal transit.
The effect is promoted by the presence of sorbitol and phenolic compounds that are beneficial for intestinal health [3].
Lactulose and mannitol are also sugars that provide an intrinsic osmotic action. This characteristic allows these substances to draw water to the intestinal level, leading to an increased faecal volume.
However, we have also combined innovation with tradition by concentrating on Tryptophan.
It is an essential amino acid which is very important for health.
Recent studies have emphasised the role that Tryptophan plays in intestinal health by supporting the eubiosis* of the microbiota and the structure of the intestinal barrier [4].
Respecting everyone’s intestine
Plum (prunes), lactulose, mannitol and tryptophan are substances that can be adapted to everyone’s needs: those of pregnant women, children over the age of three, the elderly, …
An action that is gentle, also in taste, one that respects the intestine.
